As a coach, I am always preaching about the value of self-care. I sometimes feel like a broken record. But, that’s just how important it is. Yesterday I interviewed a friend of mine for a Facebook live to discuss self-love and self-care, and she couldn’t underscore the importance enough.
More and more entrepreneurs are experiencing burnout because they are burning the candle at both ends and don’t know how to stop and take time for themselves. Guilt or people-pleasing behavior prevents many people from partaking in a regular self-care routine. For me, self-care is an essential part of my daily routine, without it, I don’t function at my highest level.
I want to dispell the myth that self-care takes additional time out of your already busy schedule and reframe it as doing things that bring you pleasure or happiness. It can be simple things like burning a candle while you work, stopping by a coffee shop to get your favorite latte, or setting aside time to read. Self-care is as varied as our individual and unique needs.
As business owners, we are always looking for life hacks to be more productive or efficient with our time. The rewards far outweigh the time it takes to invest in yourself to set you up for success in your life and business. Consider trying these ideas to create more space in your daily routine:
Keep your desk clear of unneeded paper and equipment. Having a clean work area also declutters your brain. Do what you can to go paperless, so you only have to track files digitally. Remove items that distract you from the task at hand and see how much more you accomplish each day.
What you put into your body is equally as important. Avoid sugars and processed carbs to prevent afternoon sugar crashes, brain fog, and lethargy. Be intentional about meals and load up on nuts, proteins, and fresh fruits and veggies. Fuel your body for performance and brain power. You’ll have more energy and feel more creative.
Tapping into our creativity increases productivity stimulating innovative ideas. Ideas often lead to product and content creation that generates additional income. Create an environment that allows your creativity to flourish so you can infuse your business with energy that translates into increased productivity and higher levels of success.
Take time daily to acknowledge the people who interact with you and add value to your life and business. Building strong relationships and giving others a sense of belonging creates a desire for them to do more, be more and produce more on your behalf. Use the power of compounding to increase your productivity.
Giving yourself a pat on that back can be highly motivating and great for team morale. Acknowledging your contribution to a project will make you feel more positive about your progress and build momentum to push through roadblocks that may arise.
Self-care isn’t a cookie cutter, one-size-fits-all proposition. Some of it is trial and error to find what works for you. Don’t get frustrated if you start off on this journey and have to make tweaks along the way. As you grow and evolve, you’ll find that you’ll need to uplevel your routine to continue to realize good outcomes.
We all have our own preferences on work styles, idea’s for success and relaxation activities. There is no right or wrong when it comes to personal growth. What matters is that you take an active role in your own growth journey. What action will you make today?
